Arlene MacDonald

I have been making jewelry for the past 30 years; I am a self-taught artisan, you may have seen me at one of the fine Art Shows in Minnesota: Stone Arch Festival of the Arts, Edina Art Fair, Loring Park Art Festival, Defeat of Jesse James Days, Lakeville Art Festival, Powder Horn Park Art Fair or the Gresham Art Walk in Gresham, Oregon. I am currently selling at:

The Nook and Cranny
412 Central Avenue
Faribault, Minnesota

and

NW Creations and Collectibles
364 NW Eastman Parkway
Gresham, Oregon

My favorite work is with seed beads and a needle and thread. Imagination and experimentation are interconnected. When I am creating a piece of jewelry I am not thinking of the end result, the piece will take on its own identity as I go. I have had what started out to be a bracelet turn into a necklace, and a beaded flower pin to become a necklace. I start with a color or a piece of found material like an acorn or a discarded old earring, it’s fun to use recycled material as well as the new glass beads by local bead artisans. To my surprise I have come up with a wearable piece of art. The finished one of a kind piece of jewelry then receives a name to convey my insight to how it evolved. I hope to make people smile when they look at my work and see the story behind the piece. Wearable Art! how fun is that?
